TL;DR: Americans can save lots of money getting dental work done in Spain. Or save even more going to other countries. For many years I associated medical tourism with women getting plastic surgery. This is probably because I first heard about this phenomenon in Costa Rica where they have resorts devoted to just this sort of […]

Staying with locals provides an entirely different experience from what I see as a tourist. While I’m out on my own I do basically the same things I would do in any city, namely walk around a ton and sample lots of local food and drink. But I learned some interesting things that I didn’t anticipate after 3 […]
My three week GoCambio exchange in Madrid is over and it’s time to sum up the experience, which was overall fabulous. I enjoyed an immersive taste of Spanish life while making new friends and spending very little money. In fact I’ve been raving to my friends about this experience and several of them have already […]
I had a great time traveling in Spain last year, and found a strong network of sharing economy travel businesses around the country. I saved money by using these services, and also met a lot of interesting and kind locals. Here are some updates to my master spreadsheet of peer to peer travel businesses from Spain […]

This is a summary post on what I learned about saving money using the sharing economy for travel from my recent month long trip to Spain. You can read all the posts from Spain here.
Although most of my month long trip to Spain was done with home exchange for the lodging, there were two hotel stays. The first, in Bilbao where we used IHG points to stay for free, I’ve already written about. The second was in Madrid, where we got two free nights in Melia hotels.
Once again on ridesharing. I’ve been writing about this sharing economy travel tool a lot on this trip to Spain. Far more than I expected when I started traveling. I already summed up my experience getting around Spain, but that didn’t include the trip to Madrid, which I think was noteworthy.
