Specialty: Seniors

£45/yr, £70/2 yrs, £125/5 yrs

Owned by a Scottish couple living in London

English site with google translate function built in

850 listings

Listings in selected countries:

  • France: 92
  • England: 120
  • United States: 110
  • Australia: 160

Searching: Searches start with a drop down menu of countries and then can be narrowed down with another drop down mention to region within some countries. There is an advanced search function which allows you to narrow down listings by people wanting to travel to my city, dates desired, type of swap and some features of the destination. They don’t include the standard options to filter by features of the property (i.e. number of bedrooms).  There is no map-based search.

Listings: Search results display a clean list of the properties returned with easy to read summary information. The main thing missing is number of people in the swap party, though with 50+ perhaps it is safe to assume it is almost always 1 or 2 people. Individual listings are similarly easy to read, and include a map.

This site offers the following variations on house swapping:

  • simultaneous or non-simultaneous house swap – this is the traditional model where two parties swap houses for an agreed upon set of dates. Non-simultaneous works best with second homes, but is also useful for people going on vacation and leaving their home empty. In this case each party picks different dates for the swap.
  • vacation rental – the usual rental system applies here, and owners collect payment via Home Exchange 50 plus. There is no additional fee for owners renting through this site.
  • hospitality exchange – this allows people with extra space in their house to host visitors in exchange for being hosted themselves at some other date.

Site design: Clean simple design, and quite usable except for the limitations on the search function.

Additional features: They offer a suggested letter of agreement for house swapping.

  1. Thanks for reviewing our website and we will take on board your comments about our search functions.

Home Exchange is such a great idea and it does surprise me that more people do not travel this way so the more times that Home Swapping is mentioned in websites like yours the better.

    Many thanks

    Brian
