December was a slow month for peer to peer travel news. Below I report on a few new sharing economy travel companies launched, and a bit of funding news from the industry. All new companies have been added to my spreadsheet of sharing economy travel services.
Trypp – ridesharing network focused on carpooling in the United States, launched in beta in 2016.
Gawana – ridesharing site focused on East Africa, set to launch in 2017. Usually I don’t announce new businesses until they’ve actually launched but I’m excited about this ridesharing growth in Africa. I hope to see a successful launch from Gawana next year.
On Your Way – crowdsourced delivery company that launched this year serving Lebanon.
Tripping, a metasearch site for peer to peer lodging rentals, raised $35 million this month.
Click & Boat, a peer to peer boat rental platform, just raised €1 million in capital, and after the recent acquisition of Sailsharing now has over 8000 boats listed.
