I had my first experience with a repeat house swap a few weeks ago and it’s a delightful bonus to the home exchange experience. While I’ve never wanted to own a vacation home because I prefer to spend my holiday money and time visiting new places, I’m really enjoying having a vacation home for free. In our case this is a swap appropriate for a weekend getaway, to a lovely costal town just a two hour drive from home. After swapping with this family once, we are now familiar with where to find stuff in the house, and how things will work, and we’ve established a good communication system so everything is very easy.
I can’t take credit for this set up, the folks we swapped with reached out initially and then suggested the repeat swap, but now I’m excited to look for other similar opportunities for weekend getaways nearby. That’s the idea behind this Weekend House Swap website, but sadly they have less than 20 listings. I think for now I’ll try to find these local weekend swaps that can turn into ongoing exchanges through the larger sites I’ve already joined.
